Rick Miller

Rick_Miller2I grew up believing in a better world.   All my life I have always wanted to contribute in some meaningful way having felt personally blessed with creativity, enthusiasm and a love for life.  Since my earliest days, I have always been sensitive to the needs of others and have tried to lead by example.

My first Job was at a rehabilitation hospital.   For a sixteen-year-old, the job proved both challenging and rewarding.  By seventeen, I was working in the ER and then the OR of a general hospital, or acute care as we called it.  I also continued to stay in the medical field, having worked as an optician for my fathers’ optometric practice.  Together we opened up several offices, all of which were successful.

As time went on, my interests continued to grow.  I became more involved with music, songwriting and record production.  I was also writing screenplays. I was fortunate enough to stumble into a career which allowed me to be both creative and work in an autonomous fashion.  That career was in the dating industry.  I worked closely with the directors and owners in developing new ideas and interviewed thousands of members on videotape.

One day while driving home, I saw a wall that had been vandalized by graffiti.  This was a beautiful new wall belonging to an equally beautiful neighborhood.  It was then I had a “eureka” moment.  It occurred to me that if the sprinklers had gone on during the vandalism that maybe the wall damage would have been spared.  So I developed a prototype motion sensor which connected to the sprinklers.  I called the product “Tagbak” as in tag-back and was soon dedicating a full time schedule to this new endeavor.  The idea was popular with the media, where the Tagbak story ran on multiple TV stations, newspapers, etc.

Today a great deal of my time and energy goes into learning about self-sufficiency, cutting edge technologies in solar and wind energy production and other sustainable, earth-friendly innovations.  I believe that each of us has the power to make a difference.  After all, I still believe in that better world.
